Full localization support is now available in Periscope allowing users to edit or translate strings throughout the application. Some languages have already been translated and are included out of the box, including English (default), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and Hebrew (as of v2.2). Periscope will automatically choose the correct language based on the logged in user’s browser locale (if that lexicon exists). If a new language is selected, it will be saved for future logins. Notably, Periscope can support multiple simultaneous languages in a single installation, enabling users to employ the language of their choice concurrently with other users on different locales.
Periscope has adopted the Niagara AX Lexicon model for localization editing. A lexicon is a file which includes name/value pairs of used Strings. There is a file for each localized language and these files can be found in the /AX_Home/lexicon/ directory.
Niagara AX includes the Lexicon Editor which is a GUI for creating and editing lexicons. This tool is especially useful for finding missing Strings which could occur after an update. The Lexicon Editor can be found within Niagara AX Workbench under Tools > Lexicon Editor. Once the user has modified a missing String, the “Save” button must be pressed in order to write the lexicon file. A station restart is required in order to update the strings within Periscope.
Periscope includes an option under the main menu labeled “Change Locale”. This dialog allows the current user to change the locale used within the application. New languages cannot be added to this dialog by the user, please contact your distributor if you would like an additional language added.
